Unique Student Identifier  "USI" - What is it?

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is part of a 2015 Commonwealth Government initiative to help you keep track of your complete record of training results and qualifications.

From 2015, all students undertaking nationally-recognised training will need a Unique Student Identifier before enrolment with a registered training organisation anywhere is Australia.

You can create your USI now. It only takes a few minutes!

You need to have an email address and your identification document with you as you create your USI.

Make sure you have one of the following documents with you:

  • Driver’s Licence

  • Medicare Card

  • Australian Passport

  • Visa (with Non-Australian Passport) for International Students

  • Birth Certificate (Australian) *please note a Birth Certificate extract is not sufficient

  • Certificate of Registration by Descent

  • Citizenship Certificate

  • ImmiCard

Make sure you record your USI and remember your password for future reference. Just like your Tax File Number, once you create a USI you won't have to do it again, it's your education number for life!

Ready to get your USI Now?

You can get your Unique Student Identifier (USI) through the Commonwealth Government Department of Industry:     www.usi.gov.au

If you would like more information or need additional instruction view the video on the USI Site or go to the Student Section of the USI site

Why do you need a USI?

Your USI will help keep your training records and results together in an online account controlled by you.

Each time you enrol to study with a new training organisation, your USI will be used to store your training records and results.

By having a USI you will be able to access your training records and results (or transcript) whenever you need them. For example, for a new employer or when you enrol to study at a new training organisation.

Your USI can be accessed online from your computer, tablet or smart phone and gives you access to your training records and results at your fingertips.     www.usi.gov.au
